Is there a LEAK!!!
By darmac builders | February 18, 2011 at 07:01 PM EST | No Comments

I know you may thinking a roof leak but it is not the topic that will be discussed today.  Have you seen your water bill lately? Like most of us (I am included) when we receive the bill and pay it without noticing if there is a pattern in our water  consumption.  So I am going to tell you how you can detect if you have a leak in your house.  But first you need to find your individual water meter to your house.  Usually this meter is outside in the front or in some cases in the grass area of your yard.  Most water meters are protected with a rectanglar concrete case.  Ok my weekend warriors, make sure every faucet is completely turned off.  Please DO NOT TURN OFF THE MAIN WATER because if you do, then this whole exercise will be for naught.  Remember we are trying to find if there is a leak or not.  Once you have turned off all the faucets and made sure no one has to go to the potty you can then go outside to the water meter.  Please wait to do your laundry. Remember we are trying to find a leak.  Open up the lid to the water meter and at the bottom you will see a gauge like apparatus.  Now here is the moment of truth. If the gauge dial is perfectly still then you do not have a leak and you may need to start taking 5 minutes showers instead of the 25 minutes you have become so accustomed to.  If by chance the dial is moving ever so slightly,YOU HAVE A LEAK!! How you may ask?  The dial should not be moving if you are not consuming any water.  So while you are sleeping you are literally throwing money down the drain. Once it has been determined that you have a leak check all faucets and sprinkler systems for leaks.  If you cannot find the leak yourself then call your license plumber to the rescue.  It could be something minor or it could be something that needs immediate attention.
